Do you want to help child refugees access safe, legal routes to sanctuary?

Do you want to join a ground-breaking, determined and compassionate charity that is leading the fight for child refugees caught in limbo in Europe and elsewhere?

Safe Passage is recruiting a Senior Lawyer.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual to deliver, develop, and drive an adaptive legal strategy through which Safe Passage can achieve maximum impact, working alongside a small team of lawyers within a wider multi-disciplinary and multi-national organisation.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed and experienced immigration solicitor, barrister or OISC registered advisor to join our newly established UK Legal programme within Safe Passage International. The post holder will oversee all legal work conducted by UK Legal and be at the heart of Safe Passage’s ground-breaking work to open and strengthen safe and legal routes for those seeking sanctuary. The post holder will partner with legal colleagues in our other European offices to ensure swift and effective transfers of unaccompanied children to the UK for the purpose of family reunion and to open and defend new routes for children seeking sanctuary in Europe. They will help develop legal capacity, legal strategy, and provide legal assistance on cases.

The post holder will also be an active member of SP’s Leadership Team; contributing to wider organisational development and planning.

Safe Passage grew out of the urgent need for child refugees to access their legal right to reach a place of safety. From the initial aim of helping children in Calais to reach the UK at the height of the refugee crisis in 2015, Safe Passage now has teams in Greece, France and the UK. We work to open and strengthen safe and legal routes to protection for refugee children, and then support their first steps to rebuilding their lives. Since we started work in 2015, we have directly helped 200 child refugees to safety and more than 1,800 children have travelled through the safe and legal routes we have helped open.

Safe Passage started life as a project of Citizens UK. In 2019 we formally de-merged to enable the expansion of our exciting cross-border legal work. This is a fantastic time for a dynamic Senior Lawyer to join our team!

Salary: £35,000 – 42,000 (depending on experience)

Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week) or part-time (30 hours per week)

Location: London Office

Reporting to: Safe Passage CEO

Line management responsibilities: 2 Solicitors and 1-2 Project Workers
