Many UK citizens and residents are turning to surrogates abroad to help them fulfil their dreams of parenthood. The international surrogacy process can bring enormous joy to childless families, but the immigration and citizenship status of a child born through surrogacy abroad is extremely complex. Ensuring a safe, reliable route to the UK for such children requires planning and a clear grasp of the relevant legal frameworks.

Karma Hickman. Karma is an associate in the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality team at Bindmans and is an experienced immigration law trainer. She has worked for many years in a broad range of immigration and nationality law matters and has particular expertise in applications involving children, including surrogacy and intercountry adoption cases.
