This workshop offers tips on navigating discretionary applications under section 3(1) of the British Nationality Act 1981, addressing key challenges and equipping practitioners with the tools to effectively represent children applying for British citizenship.
In this advanced workshop we’ll address the difficulties practitioners may face when submitting applications to register children as British.
The primary focus will be on discretionary applications made under section 3(1) of the British Nationality Act 1981. We will examine when such applications are appropriate, the evidence required and how to construct persuasive representations to support an application. The workshop will cover the Home Office’s approach to these cases.
Through case studies and expert guidance from your tutor, we’ll explore common challenges practitioners encounter, such as insufficient supporting evidence, cases involving children in care, and situations where parental consent is unattainable.
Designed as a small online workshop, we are limiting attendance to a maximum of 14 attendees. Whether you are new to this area or looking to deepen your expertise, this workshop will provide you with essential knowledge and tools to help navigate this complex area of nationality law, enabling you to effectively represent children making applications for British citizenship.

Detailed but not overwhelming. The examples where good and illustrated complex parts well. The quiz at the end was very good.
Well written and exam focused.
I thought the test questions were helpful. The language used was clear. The visuals for more complicated parts of the rules were great.
Very clear language, useful examples, links to relevant further information, legislation, etc.
