Position: Solicitor (Immigration Law – 2+ years PQE)

Term: Permanent (Full-time)

We specialise in family law, immigration law, criminal law and general dispute resolution in the Sheriff Court, Sheriff Appeal Court and Court of Session (Outer & Inner House). MBS Solicitors regularly advise on complex and high-value cases from clients across the globe and are regularly ranked amongst the leading firms for excellence in client care. 

We have an immediate opportunity for an immigration law solicitor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years PQE practising across the full range of immigration law matters but with a particular focus on personal and family immigration including deportation, visit visas, Appendix FM applications, EU Settled Status applications, Naturalisation and Registration as a British Citizen applications and applications for children, as well as experience conducting written and oral advocacy in the Immigration Tribunal and instructing Counsel in the Court of Session. We have an international and diverse client base and are regularly instructed to act as Edinburgh Agent in the Court of Session on behalf of solicitors across the UK, particularly in respect of last-minute attempted removals.

This role will involve:

  • Meeting with clients, providing in-depth advice independently and preparing applications/appeals for clients inside and outside the UK;
  • Drafting grounds of appeal, skeleton arguments, witness statements, conducting oral advocacy in the Immigration Tribunal, instructing Counsel in judicial reviews and appeals from the Upper Tribunal in the Court of Session. Experience of instructing Counsel and an understanding of Court of Session procedure is desirable, but not essential;
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues including advising on the immigration law aspects of family/criminal/general dispute resolution matters

Candidates must demonstrate excellent written communication skills and work together as part of a team.
