We are recruiting for a new Deputy Editor (Training). The previous post-holder has had to step down for personal reasons unconnected to the job, unfortunately.

The job is to commission and edit new courses and keep our existing training materials up to date, including our range of ebooks. It is a really important role within Free Movement: our highly-regarded training materials are relied on by thousands of Free Movement members. Explaining complex concepts in a structured, straightforward way, illustrated by relevant worked examples, is not easy to do well.

A salary of approximately £35,000 (pro rata) will be paid depending on experience. We anticipate the role being equivalent to three days per week but this is negotiable and the role could be full time if that is what the successful applicant prefers. The job can be self-employed or employed depending on the successful applicant’s circumstances. Hours are extremely flexible and the role is a remote working one.

The successful applicant will report to the Editor, CJ McKinney. A very high degree of autonomy and initiative is required. An ability to read and understand law is important and experience in immigration law would be a significant advantage. The job will involve some writing to update existing materials but will principally involve commissioning and editing. Robust and imaginative editing may be required at times in order to ensure that material is clearly written and comprehensible to a lay reader. It would be suitable for a person with professional legal editing experience or an immigration lawyer with editing and writing experience. Some editing and production of simple audio and video content will be required, but using straightforward software packages.
