That is according to the Ministry of Justice, Freedom of Information release 191007018. The data covers England and Wales only and can be downloaded here. Figures going further back are available from the Association of Visitors to Immigration Detainees.

The Home Office has a “service level agreement” with the prison service allowing 400 immigration detainees to be kept in jails after finishing a prison sentence. There are in addition around 2,800 spaces in dedicated immigration removal centres, down from 4,500 in 2015.
