New legal aid rates for immigration and asylum work to take effect from 22 December 2025
The Civil Legal Aid (Procedure and Remuneration) (Amendment) Regulations 2025 have been laid before parliament today and will come into effect on 22 December 2025. The regulations will amend schedule 1 of The Civil Legal Aid (Remuneration) Regulations 2013. Some of the main changes are set out below.

This will apply to new controlled work matters opened from 22 December 2025.

An extra special decision to choose 22 Dec to make sure the fees don’t actually come into effect in January.
They promised in November last year. Then held a fake consultation which ignored all submissions and decided in July to do exactly what had been decided in November. Then only put it into effect in January .
They want legal aid to die.
