The Migrants’ Law Project are looking for a solicitor, caseworker, or barrister to join our dynamic strategic legal team. We are leaders in the field of strategic legal work to protect and promote the rights of asylum seekers, refugees and migrants in the UK and Europe. We have successfully challenged key issues for this group such as immigration detention, leading on the work to suspend the Detained Fast Track. Most recently we have been focussed on securing justice for families caught up in the European refugee crisis, and on wider issues in family reunion for asylum seekers, refugees, and migrants, through the key cases of ZAT and through representing Citizens UK. We are part of the Islington Law Centre asylum and immigration team, which has been awarded a Category 1 independent Peer review from the Legal Aid Agency.
This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic caseworker, solicitor, or barrister to work in a supportive and collaborative environment to develop a strategic legal practice. This work will include providing advice and representation to organisations and individuals to develop legal solutions to issues relating to family reunion, as well as exploring other areas for strategic legal intervention. The role involves undertaking all aspects of casework, including litigation. The role also provides the opportunity to work collaboratively with a wide range of actors with a stake in providing a holistic service to support asylum seekers, refugees, and migrants.
Candidates should be either:
- practising solicitors with significant experience of litigation or
- practising barristers with experience of conducting casework (including litigation) within a solicitor led agency
- caseworkers accredited at Level 3 OISC and Level 2 IAAS with significant experience of litigation
The role may involve occasional travel within and outside the UK. The Law Centre has a time off in lieu policy for work outside office hours, and overtime is available.
If you would like to apply, please go to: https://themigrantslawproject.org/vacancies/. If you need any further information, please contact Katie Commons on katiec@islingtonlaw.org.uk.
Applications will be accepted through our application forms. The closing date for applications is 12pm on 4th October 2019.
Interviews for this post will be held on 24 October 2019.
Unfortunately, we will not be able to offer an interview outside this date due to panel availability.
