On 4 September 2025, a change in the Immigration Rules introduced a temporary suspension of all new applications for refugee family reunion, following the announcement to pause the Appendix FRP route pending a full review. This applies to both the in country and out of country routes. Whilst the pause is in place, applications from a partner and child of a person with protection status in the UK can be made under Appendix FM: family members. We will update this course again following the outcome of the review.
When someone is granted protection status in the United Kingdom this opens up the possibility of sponsoring family members to join them in the UK. This is often referred to as “refugee family reunion” although there are several forms of protection status. There are special rules from which family members benefit and a specific appendix of the Immigration Rules which apply to such cases.
This online training course covers the nuts and bolts of family reunion applications, who can apply, the requirements to meet, avoiding refusals and how to appeal.
