About this course

Unaccompanied children going through the asylum system are extremely vulnerable. Many have made dangerous journeys alone, lack support from family members and are at a high risk of trafficking.

This webinar will teach you the soft skills needed to take a child-centred approach when supporting a child through the asylum process. You’ll learn how to create a safe and compassionate environment for child clients and ensure their voices are heard.

We’ll be covering:

  • How the asylum process differs for children compared to adults
  • Best practice for taking a child-centred approach
  • Effective methods for gathering information and evidence early in the process, including child-appropriate interviewing
  • Home Office policy and decision-making in children’s asylum claims
  • Working collaboratively with professionals involved in the child’s life, including social workers, foster carers, healthcare providers and schools

This session will help you understand the legal and practical differences of representing asylum seeking children.

What do people say about our online IAA level 1 training?

I wish to thank Jasmine from the bottom of my heart for her excellent tuition, course delivery, exam feedback and the support she has provided to me for the two Level 2 training courses that I attended in April and October 2024. I achieved a high pass mark which enabled me and my firm to provide advice and services for complex casework in both the immigration and asylum categories. I truly do not think I would have been successful without her professional and invaluable assistance.

Tony Mattu, Beyond Borders Immigration Solutions (BBIS)

We have two members of the team who completed the level 1 course delivered in January – they have just passed their competency assessments with flying colours 😊 Thank you for the excellent course structure and support which will have contributed towards their success.

Lucy Walmsley, The Westwood Organisation

It’s a great way to gain foundational understanding of immigration law that is digestible yet still comprehensive. I liked how interactive the class was where we were encouraged to utilise our knowledge and test our understanding.

Ashari Bilan-Cooper

Detailed but not overwhelming. The examples where good and illustrated complex parts well. The quiz at the end was very good.

Ana Hart UK Visas

I thought the test questions were helpful. The language used was clear. The visuals for more complicated parts of the rules were great.

Katharine Higgs

Very clear language, useful examples, links to relevant further information, legislation, etc.
